Mornings Begin with Splitting Firewood

When you wake in the morning, the first thing you do is split firewood. This is your daily ritual from check-in until the day you leave. On your first day, the owner, Mr. Yamaguchi, teaches you how to handle the axe.

It doesn't matter if you're clumsy. The wood you split fuels the evening bath and the wood stove at night.

The Sound of the Stream, and a Sky Full of Stars

The Yoro River flows right beside the lodge. The sound of the water never stops, all day long.

At night, with almost no outdoor lighting, the sky reveals an astonishing number of stars. Shooting stars are not uncommon. You stretch out on a bench and simply gaze upward — and just like that, two hours slip by.

Electricity, Kept to a Minimum

Komorebi has electricity, but only the bare minimum. No Wi-Fi. No TV.

It should feel inconvenient — and yet, somehow, by the time you leave, your heart feels lighter.
